Last updated: 5 August 2026
This policy explains what personal data Property Law Online collects through this website, why we collect it, and the rights you have over it.
Who we are
Property Law Online (propertylawonline.co.uk) is the data controller for personal data collected through this website. If you have any question about how your data is handled, contact us at info@propertylawonline.co.uk.
What we collect
We collect the contact details you provide (name, email address and, where you choose to give it, a telephone number), information about your property matter, documents you send us, identity documents required for anti-money-laundering checks, payment records, and limited technical data such as the pages you visit and the device and browser you use.
Why we process your data
We process your data to provide the legal services you instruct us on (performance of a contract), to meet our legal and regulatory obligations including anti-money-laundering law, to respond to enquiries you send us (legitimate interests), and, where you have consented, to send you relevant updates. We do not sell your data and we do not share it with third parties for their marketing.
Cookies
We use essential cookies required for the site to function. Optional analytics cookies are only set if you accept them in the cookie banner, and you can change your choice at any time by clearing your browser storage and revisiting the site.
Who we share data with
Where necessary to progress your matter we share data with HM Land Registry, search providers, HMRC, other parties’ legal representatives, our identity-verification and payment providers, and our secure hosting providers. Each provider processes data only on our instructions and under contract.
How long we keep it
Client files are retained for six years after your matter concludes, in line with professional requirements and limitation periods, after which they are securely deleted. Enquiry data from people who do not become clients is deleted within twelve months.
How we protect it
Data is stored on encrypted, access-controlled systems within secure UK/EEA-standard infrastructure. Access is limited to the staff working on your matter.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, correct, erase and port your data, and to object to or restrict processing. To exercise any right, email info@propertylawonline.co.uk and we will respond within one month. If you are unhappy with our response you may complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
